A VOICE FOR LAWYERS AND THE PROFESSION

Candidate statement:
Dear Law Society Members,

I am seeking your support and vote in The Law Society of New South Wales Council Election.

By way of background I am the General Counsel and Company Secretary for Winc, being the merged businesses of Staples, Corporate Express and OfficeMax in Australia and New Zealand.

I have been a lawyer for just over 20 years and started my career with Moray & Agnew. I feel privileged to be part of the legal profession and see every day the value lawyers add to their clients and the communities they represent. I am a strong advocate for the legal profession and understand the needs of our community, the challenges we face and the importance of the Law Society being a strong voice for our members and their interests.

I was previously named the Association of Corporate Counsel Global Member of the Year for my commitment to the legal community. I was also previously named an Australian Lawyer of the Year (FMCG) and was an Australian General Counsel of the Year triple finalist.

I am highly active within the legal community, being a regular contributor and speaker on legal and business affairs and also a member of the judging panels for the Australian Law Awards, Australasian Law Awards, New Zealand Law Awards, Women in Law Awards, Corporate Counsel Awards, Partner of the Year Awards and the 30 Under 30 Law Awards.

I am on the Legal Innovation & Tech Fest Advisory Board, a member of the Law Society In-House Corporate Lawyers Committee and the Assistant Secretary of the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club, a position I have held for many years. I am also President of the Australian Labor Party Coogee State Electorate Council and a member of the NSW Society of Labor Lawyers.

I grew up on the Far North Coast of NSW and have four children.

I am seeking to be elected to the Law Society Council to be a voice for lawyers and the profession, to represent our interests and the interests of the profession in a rapidly changing environment. I seek to be a positive voice for lawyers and help influence legislative reform that impacts our profession.

I would appreciate your support and vote and if you would like to discuss anything please do not hesitate to contact me on 0409 100 364 or troy.swan@winc.com.au.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours faithfully

Troy Swan
