Candidate statement:
A Partner of Marsdens Law Group living in the Southern Highlands, I practice primarily in the Macarthur Region. For the last 5 years I have also worked as a sessional lecturer at Western Sydney University. Currently serving as President, I have been on the executive of the MacArthur Law Society for close to 10 years. In my role with the MacArthur Law Society I have helped introduce a program in the Local Court to support victims of domestic violence and been part of the driving committee to improve access to justice via the South West Sydney Justice Precinct. Practising in a small town, court closures and significant delays in judicial processes are just two of the issues I deal with on a daily basis.

My practice is primarily focused on the day to day needs of our local country community. My current practice areas include Property, Estates and Family Law - however I also have experience practising Criminal and Commercial Law.

The Pandemic created an environment that demanded change. Our profession adapted to the requirement for change and has now seen the efficiencies created by expanding technology as a tool for success. I believe that online hearings, flexible work environments and technology removing geographical barriers are the first steps in our profession embracing the future. The Law Society needs to continue to enliven change by adopting policies and initiatives that improve efficiency and work life balance.

I will:

• Promote initiatives that support access to justice, particularly for rural, remote and regional practitioners

• Assist practitioners with access to technology that improves efficiency and work life balance

• Seek technologies and programs that the Law Society can implement to improve the day to day practice of members with particular focus on country members

To help ensure we have a collegiate and inclusive profession, equipped to embrace the future, I am seeking election with a group of lawyers who share these values.
