Candidate statement
Large Firm Member
I am a corporate lawyer working in the General Counsel’s Office at MinterEllison - having previously worked as an in-house financial services lawyer for 17 years.
Having also served on the Law Society’s In-House Corporate Lawyers’ Committee for many years, including as chair, I have a deep understanding of how varied in-house practice is, and the different issues and complexities faced by in-house legal teams both small and large. I live and breathe the challenges of regulatory change and risk management.
I have a strong focus on ensuring the relevance of the Law Society for all its members, whether in private practice, government or in-house roles, including through the benefits of membership and supporting the great work that has been undertaken in the areas of mental health, wellbeing, advancement of women, pro bono, diversity and inclusion.
A critical issue facing the profession as a whole, is how to make practice easier while ensuring we can keep on top of ongoing technological and regulatory change. Whether it is through my contributions to the Society’s AI Taskforce or my service on the Society’s council and committees, I am helping the Society to help you in responding to this changing landscape.
I believe the Law Society has a great leadership and educational role to play in helping the profession adapt to new modes of work, including the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence technologies and the ongoing support of working from home and other flexible working arrangements for all genders, with or without dependants.
To ensure the Law Society has diverse and expert leadership, I am seeking election to Council with 5 other lawyers that I encourage you to support. You can find out more about us at https://www.councilelections.com.au
